A CASED PAIR OF 50-BORE FRENCH PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS

With blued octagonal sighted barrels dated on the underside of the breech, and signed in gold Gothic letters, inlaid with gold foliated scrollwork, gold lines at the muzzle and breech, and repectively with the numbers '1' and '2', and on the underside in front of the fore-end with the serial number '762', case-hardened patent breeches engraved with scrollwork on a matted ground, tangs en suite each incorporating the back-sight, signed locks en suite, iron mounts en suite, and ebony half-stocks carved on the fore-ends and fluted butts with scrolling vines inhabited by a satyr-mask and monsters, all in relief against a punched ground (small patches of surface rust, some loss of blue on barrels): in later lined and fitted case with accessories
