Lot Essay

Frouzette et son père was painted during Dufy's trip to Durtal in the Maine-et-Loire region where he stayed at the home of his friend, fellow painter Alexis Axilette, in 1906. The painting is dedicated to Axilette's daughter Frouzette, who is shown at the table beside her mother as Axilette paints them.
