Reuven Rubin settled in Israel in 1922, and soon became highly regarded for his landscape paintings of his new homeland. His work of the 1920s is renowned for its depictions of the pioneering efforts of the Jewish settlers, historical monuments, the Arab inhabitants of the country and idyllic landscapes. These paintings are rare in Rubin's oeuvre and are distinguished by their use of bright colors and rounded naive shapes.
In Still-life on my Window (Abu Kabir), Rubin depicted the harmony and co-existence he found in his new country. The view includes the church at Abu Kabir, the Biblical reference of a pomegranate, and indigenous- motifs such as the small figure of an Arab on a donkey and the date palms in the background.
