The serpentine-crested padded back and seat covered in orange leaf-patterned material, on cabriole legs headed by acanthus and stylised shells, with scrolled feet carved with acanthus, with leather castors, one patera and the back ears replaced

Lot Essay

The hipped knees and scrolled front feet relate to a suite of side chairs labelled by Giles Grendey from Gunton Park, Norfolk, (C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, London, 1996, p. 243, fig. 437).
