Lot Essay

Sir Henry Kingsmill (1587-1625), who was knighted in 1611, was the son of Sir William Kingsmill and Anne, daughter of William Wilkes of Middleton Cheney, Oxfordshire. The Sotheby's sale in 1996 also included a portrait of the sitter's son Sir William Kingsmill (1622-1642) by Gilbert Jackson as lot 17.
