Lot Essay

The celebrated Bergsten Collection consisted of Old Master Pictures, European Furniture from the 18th and 19th Centuries, Works of Art and Classical Sculpture and was formed between the years 1900 and 1950 by Karl Bergsten (1869 - 1953), known as Consul General Bergsten, who furnished his superb house in Stockholm in the manner of a 18th Century Grand Tourist connoisseur from the golden age of collecting. A part of the Collection was dispersed in these Rooms in various European Furniture sales (25 March 1999, 23 June 1999 and 30 September 1999). Comprising individual pieces of exceptional quality and diversity, the Collection spoke eloquently of the dedication, flair and intelligence with which Karl and Dagmar Bergsten asembled their works of art.
