Lot Essay

A pergola game-park tapestry with very similar border including the same figures to the bottom and side borders, but flanked by the more standard foliage and fruits is in the Audenarde town collection and illustrated in I. de Meûter and M. Vanvelden, Tapisseries d'Audenarde du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle, Tielt, 1999, p. 134. The tapestry in Audenarde with its companion are signed by an unidentified weaver, who could very well also be responsible for the weaving of the offered lot.
