PROBABLY BRUSSELS, SECOND HALF 16TH CENTURY
Woven in wools and silks, depicting a courtly hunt with a castle and a mountainous landscape beyond, within an elaborate strapwork and scrolling foliate border decorated with putti and satyrs, the sides centred by classical warriors and the corners with female figures, within a later blue outer slip, minor losses and areas of restoration and reweaving throughout, reduced in height and width along bottom end of field

A game-park tapestry of very similar character as the offered lot and composed of two joined tapestries, with borders composed of almost identical motives, was sold anonymously, Sotheby Parke Bernet, New York, 29 May 1981, lot 516.
