Lot Essay

Although larger in size, the present lot of the Virgin and Child relates very closely to an amber figure of St Barbara in the Altonaer Museum, Hamburg (illustrated in G. Reineking von Bock, Bernstein - Das Gold der Ostsee, Munich, 1981, p. 114, pl. 170).
