Lot Essay

Whilst varying slightly in physiognomy and type of decoration, the present lot relates very closely to a series of candlestick holders illustrated in Falke and Meyer (loc. cit.). Perhaps the closest comparison is with number 211, whose left arm is also placed on the left knee and has a similar tapered stump to the right where the candlestick nozzle previously was.
