Lot Essay

Sadly, virtually nothing is known about the author of the charming lot being offered here depicting the Virgin, Child and infant St John. There is, however, in an appendix to Tardy's (loc. cit.) seminal catalogue on ivory carvings, reference to 'Goyon Adrien. Sculptueur sur ivoire à Mâcon, vers 1676-1692' who is possibly identifiable with the author if the present lot.
