This delicately handcoloured etching depicts the park in Oostende, not far from Ensor's home. The skating figures might at first glance be identified as locals enjoying this winter scene. However, taking a closer look, one finds devilish creatures and naked bottoms, linking Ensor's etching to those of Breughel and Bosch and the tradition of the four seasons as a theme in early printmaking.
