A Coromandel lacquer cabinet, early 18th century
with two hinged doors opening to reveal eight sliding drawers to the interior, carved and painted to the surface with two deer on a riverbank before pavilions in a mountainous landscape, the doors with a group of ladies seated in a pavilion garden amongst pine and rockwork, the sides with birds amongst peonies and magnolia and kingfishers amongst lotus and pomegranate sprays, the interior with vases of flowers and flowering stems, brass mounts and carrying handles, set on a gilt wood European stand, pierced and carved with cherubic figures amongst trailing vines -- the cabinet 18½in. (47cms) tall x 21¼in. (54cms) wide x 15¼in. (38.7cms) deep.
