[The Beautiful Scenery and Chief Places of Interest throughout the Crimea], [London: Day & Son, 1856]. 2° (555 x 305mm), 31 hand-coloured tinted lithographed plates only (of 52) mounted on Whatman paper, dimensions 180 x 280mm to 250 x 340mm. A VERY FINE GROUP OF HAND-COLOURED PLATES BY ONE OF THE GREATEST ARTISTS TO PRODUCE A FIRST-HAND RECORD OF THE CRIMEAN CAMPAIGN. Carlo Bossoli was born in Lugano and spent most of his youth in Odessa. Having travelled extensively in Italy, Turkey, Malta, central Europe and Morocco, he went to the Crimea in 1855 to cover the war, moving to London in 1856 where The Beautiful Scenery was published and where he was presented to Queen Victoria, for whom he carried out several commissions.
