FIRST AND ONLY EDITION of Cassas's monumental pictorial account of his travels around the Middle East. The work was originally intended to contain 330 plates, with accompanying text. In the event it was issued in 30 livraisons, without a title page, and with text to accompany the first seven parts only. The number of plates in different copies varies - Atabey considers 'around 180' as standard, whilst Cohen-de Ricci calls for 173, but mentions a copy with 192. Cf. Atabey 201; cf. Blackmer 295; Cohen-de Ricci 204-5. (2)
