Rosaspina after Girolamo Contoli or Pia Panfili, engraved title vignette and 6 engraved head- and tail-pieces by Panfili. (Spotted.) Contemporary half speckled sheep over marbled boards, blue edges (repairs at corners and spine ends). Modern calf chemise and slipcase. Provenance: Halsted B. Vander Poel.
Leonardo's treatise on painting was first printed more than a century after his death, having previously circulated widely in manuscript.
