Title and woodcut portrait of Alfred within a wide historiated border, large woodcut initial D with inset arms on recto of second leaf, text throughout printed in Anglo-Saxon. [Bound between the preliminaries and the text of]: WALSINGHAM, Thomas. Historia breuis ... ab Edwardo primo, ad Henricum quintum, (London: Henry Bynneman), 1574. Title within a wide woodcut border with portraits of the six kings on the verso, 2 large and fine woodcut initials, one dated 1574, device at end, with the final blank. (Small repaired hole in title affects the border and a portrait on the verso, small flaw in FF1 with partial loss of a few letters.) [and]: WALSINGHAM, Thomas. Ypodigma Neustriae vel Normanniae ... ab irruptione Normannorum vsq; ad annum.6. regni Henrici quinti, London: John Day, 1574. Title within historiated and architectural border with portraits of the 7 dukes on the verso, large woodcut initial M on A1r. Together 3 works in one volume, 2° (286 x 190mm). Later brown morocco antique gilt by Rivière, gilt edges (a few minor marks on upper cover). Provenance: Edward Hailstone (circular olive morocco gilt bookplate). FIRST EDITIONS.
