FIRST EDITION of Gildas' account of the conquest of Britain by the Anglo-Saxons. His history was probably written in Brittany in the monastery that he founded, St Gildas at Ruys; a monastery that was to achieve great fame as the place of retirement of Abelard. For more information on the place of publication and the printer, see The Library, IV (1979), pp.355-60. STC 11892 ('not an STC book').
