Additional folding engraved allegorical title, portraits of the Duke of Marlborough and Caesar, 6 double-page maps and 74 plates only (?of 79), most double-page. (Some mainly light browning and spotting.) Contemporary red morocco elaborately decorated in gilt with rectangular panel with fan tools on each side enclosing a central diamond with anethemion tools at each corner, gilt edges (rubbed and scuffed, some wear at corners). Provenance: Mark Dineley (armorial bookplate). FIRST EDITION. The double-page plate of the bull is often lacking, but it is present in this copy. Brunet I, 1456: "édition magnifique ... très recherchée"; Lowndes I, p.344: "The most sumptuous classical work which this country has produced."
