Rectangular box with bulging polished sides, the lid and base centred by rectangular panels of fine diagonal peaked scalloped engine-turning creating a reptile's skin pattern, within fluted borders and broad matted frames stamped with trailing foliage and foliate rosettes, wavy slightly raised polished gold thumbpiece, the inside of the lid later engraved with monogram 'LM'
