Lot Essay

The small medal was struck by Thomas Pingo about 1750 and many of them were distributed by Bonnie Prince Charlie amongst his supporters (see E. Hawkins/A. Franks/H. Grueber, Medallic Illustrations of the History of Great Britian & Ireland thru George II, London, 1978, II, p. 601, no. 253).
