Lot Essay

Ferdinand, son of Emperor Francis II of Austria (see lot 118) and his second wife, succeeded his father as Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria in 1835 and abdicated in 1848 in favour of his nephew, Francis-Joseph (see lot 167). He married in 1831, Princess Anna of Savoy, daughter of King Victor Emmanuel of Sardinia, but died without issue.
