Grand Duke Frederick Francis III married in 1860 Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia, a granddaughter of Tsar Nicholas I. Their two daughters, Alexandrine and Cecilie, were married respectively to Christian X of Denmark and William, Crown Prince of Prussia.
Duke Frederick succeeded his father in 1756 and became known as 'the Pious'. He was succeeded by his nephew Frederick Francis I (see lot 395).
