AN EGYPTIAN PLASTER MUMMY PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN
ROMAN PERIOD, CIRCA LATE 1ST CENTURY A.D.
Modelled with a long oval face and a thin-bridged aquiline nose, the small mouth with the corners indented, the full lips puckered, the eyes inlaid with white glass, the pupils in black, the lashes and brows painted black, wearing a garment painted a rich purple and brilliant rose, preserving portions of a massive choker with extensive gilding, centered by a faux jewel and crescent pendant, her hair arranged in a variation of the melon-coiffure, with a tightly-braided cork screw lock in front of each ear, the bun secured on itself as a sinuous repeated series of serpentine-like coils projecting to her right at the nape of the neck, preserving the remains of the linen wrappings on the interior
