A SOUTH ARABIAN PARCEL GILT SILVER BOWL
CIRCA 2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
The shallow dish of hammered silver, chased on the exterior with a radiating net-pattern along the body, the tondo gilt and engraved on the exterior with a bird of prey alighting, its wings outspread, the feathering indicated throughout, the head in profile with a long hooked beak, encircled by punched dots and rosettes, a gilt band below the rim on the exterior engraved with decorative elements and an inscription, with an original text in Sabean later mutilated and reinscribed for a new owner, reading, "Hari-yada'at and Halkum and their children, of [the family] Hasbach; and Dhakhar-il and Namamat"
