Such impressions represent an important aspect in the commercial relationship between artist and publisher. Artists can be asked to produce these proofs to set against publishing costs, as well the artists reserving proofs themselves to distribute to friends or collaborators. Collectors find an added appeal in impressions that are signed when the published edition was unsigned, or those dedicated by the artist in recognition of a certain relationship or moment in their work. Several of the following lots mark a collaboration between editors and artist on museum exhibitions and catalogue raisonnés.
