A ROMAN GOLD AND CARNELIAN NECKLACE
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Composed of ten faceted carnelian beads, each threaded by a plain wire looped at each end and joined to elaborate links in the form of Herakles knots, one with a crescent pendant at the center with a small carnelian bead, one end terminating in a hook, the other end joined to an oval box bezel, set with a convex carnelian ring stone engraved with a lion walking to the left on a groundline
