FIRST HODGKIN-ILLUSTRATED EDITION, LIMITED TO 243 COPIES, THIS NO. 18 OF 25 ARTIST'S PROOFS WITH A SEPARATE PRINT NUMBERED AND INITIALLED BY HODGKIN. Sontag's text (first published in The New Yorker in 1986) was one of the first stories to be written about AIDS; this edition is illustrated with five images by Hodgkin created in 1990, one of which is used twice to form inner endpapers and another of which is present printed on a separate sheet. The edition was sold to benefit the British AIDS charity CRUSAID, which in turn distributed the money to AIDS charities in Britain and the USA. Castleman A Century of Artists' Books p.198; L.
