CHURCHILL, Sir W.L.S. Typed letter signed ('Winston S. Churchill'), Chartwell, 27 November 1950, one page, 4° (punch hole to upper left).
A STATEMENT ON THE ROAD TRANSPORT INDUSTRY. Churchill, as leader of the opposition, writes of his appreciation of 'the fight which the Road Transport industry has made to retain its freedom', and his party's opposition to the 'Socialist policy of nationalization and restriction'. The Conservatives 'stand by their assertion that freedom for the Road Transport industry under small unit management is an essential part of any plan for British recovery and industrial prosperity'. He urges road hauliers to stand firm and 'prove, both by their exertions and example, that nationalization can never be a substitute for private enterprise'.
