EINSTEIN, Albert. Autograph letter signed ('Papa') to his eldest son, Hans Albert, and daughter-in-law Frieda, n.p. 24 March 1930, one page, 4°.
'LIVELY INTEREST' IN EINSTEIN'S NEW THEORY. Einstein is delighted that his son and daughter-in-law are coming to visit, and hopes that the country peace and quiet will do them as much good as they do him. If Hans Albert is still thinking of going into patent research, Einstein can provide some contacts, and declares it a good job for someone with a sound intelligence. He declares himself in splendid shape, as regards both health and work: 'The new theory is now exciting lively interest in addition to the scepticism of my colleagues. I am working diligently with a fine Viennese mathematician [Walther Mayer] for whom the Academy here has provided a stipend'. A postscript expresses worries for Einstein's younger son, Eduard: 'He is good and clever, but one must always fear for his nerves'.
Einstein and Mayer published a paper in February 1930, and in October the same year the two delivered another proposing a new unified field theory.
