A HORRIFIED REACTION TO THE PROSPECT OF HIS SON TRAVELLING ON A GERMAN SHIP: 'It would be too great a scandal if my son were to travel to America under the swastika. I will gladly pay the difference. You could for example travel with the French line in tourist class'.

Hans Albert travelled to the United States to escape the worsening situation in Europe, and eventually found a job with the Soil Conservation Service in Greenville, South Carolina.
