EINSTEIN, Albert. Autograph letter signed ('Papa') to his son Hans Albert and his family, n.p., n.d. [1940/41], written in green ink, one page, 4° (punch holes).
'UNCERTAIN TIMES'. Einstein is delighted that Hans Albert's work is receiving such general recognition: 'How lucky it was that you left Switzerland in time. Today it would hardly still be possible, at least not under such favourable conditions'. He comments on the efforts of other acquaintances trying to emigrate, adding 'It looks very bad for the French scientists, because they are mostly in occupied France'. Hans Albert's courage in adopting a child 'in these uncertain times' impresses him, 'but I believe you are doing the right thing'. Einstein's own work is making progress, 'But I still don't know if my way is the right one. In world politics it now looks a little better thanks to England's firm stand and Roosevelt's re-election. Only Russia is tremendously disappointing, as always'.
