The watch manufacturer Vulcain was a branch of the renowned Ditisheim & Co. of La Chaux-de-Fonds, active as of around 1920 until the late 1970s. The company was renowned for their "Cricket" alarm wristwatch, fitted with an ingenious and simple mechanism. The movement is wound by turning the crown counter-clockwise, the alarm by turning it clockwise. It is set by depressing the button at the 2 o'clock position, which then releases the winding crown to a second position and allows to set the alarm hand. The alarm is also stopped by pressing the button in the band. For better resonance of the ringing sound, the watch is fitted with a pierced case back.
