An important and large German 18KT gold-mounted agate table snuff-box
Apparently unmarked, possibly German, 19th century
Oval, grey/brownish agate box and hinged cover, the sides mounted with openworked gold mount decorated in low relief with the symbols of Plenty, War and Peace, within scrolling foliage and stylised flower vases and within foliate C-scroll rims, the cover with chased in high relief and openworked with the 'Toilet of Venus', one of the Three Graces holding the mirror, the other two Graces on the left, cupids above and the chariot in clouds drawn by doves, within foliate C-scroll panels and foliate C-scroll rim
