A very rare First Class Badge, the central twin busts in sardonyx of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert facing left, to the two-row old-cut diamond border, gem-set crown and three-stone suspension loop, mounted in silver and gold, circa 1880, 8.5 cm. high

Lot Essay

The Royal Order of Victoria and Albert was instituted by Queen Victoria, 10th February 1862, and consists of four classes. It was given to Ladies as a special mark of esteem and favour. The first and second classes were limited to both British and foreign Royalty. The third and fourth classes were awarded to distinguished ladies and members of the Royal Household.
