Statuette en terre cuite à engobe crème représentant un personnage masculin nu assis, les jambes croisées, le bras et la main gauche posés sur la jambe droite, le coude droit sur la main gauche et la main droite sous le menton, la tête légèrement penchée en avant vers la droite dans une attitude pensive, le visage ovale caractéristique, la large bouche entrouverte aux lèvres charnues, le nez épaté surmonté d'arcades sourcillières nettement affirmées, les yeux en amande incisés, les oreilles allongées et percées, et le front haut et bombé.

OLMEC SEATED FIGURINE
LAS BOCAS, EARLY PRECLASSIC, CA. 1150-550 B.C.
The legs loosely crossed with the right elbow resting on the left hand and cupping his chin, with well modeled nude body, the head turned slightly to the right with a pensive expression, the delicately rendered features with classic narrowed eyes under arched brows and fully treated lips; covered overall in creamy kaolin slip.
During the Early Preclassic phase of Olmec civilization, artists produced a wide variety of solid clay figurines. Generally modeled in buff clay and covered with a fine white or cream-colored slip, these small sculptures are often masterpieces of Pre-Columbian art.
