Lot Essay

This painting is part of a cycle of paintings entitled 'Russe'. Yesenin (b.1895) was a Russian poet. An early supporter of the October Revolution, he was later famous for his criticism of the Bolshevik government through poems such as 'The Stern October Has Deceived Me'.
