A PAIR OF BOW CRESTED CUTLERY HANDLES

Of pistol form, moulded with scrolls, swags of flowers and stiff leaves, painted with the crest of a wyvern out of an Asiatic crown and with scattered specimen flowers and with brown and gilt interlocking scrolls, the silver collars fitted with a contemporary steel two-pronged fork and a curved blade (some rubbing to enamels)
The handles 4 in. (10.8 cm.) and 3½ in. (9 cm.) long (2)

Lot Essay

The crest is that of the Reverend John Coxed, Doctor of Laws and Warden of New College, Oxford, who died in 1757 as Warden of Winchester College.
