Lot Essay

Cf. the closely similar examples, sold in these Rooms, 13th November 1972, lot 83; another, 5th June 1978, lot 85. See also F. Severne Mackenna, Chelsea Porcelain, The Triangle and Raised Anchor Wares (Leigh-on-Sea, 1948), pl. 6, no.15.

Although traditionally given to Chelsea, the paste and glaze of this type have more in common with the wares attributed to the so-called 'Girl in a Swing' class of porcelains; such an attribution should not be discounted.
