CIRCA 1728, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS AND SMALL CROSS (?) MARK, GILDER'S 17. MARK TO BOTH
The coffee-pot with pointed spout and S-scroll handle, painted in the manner of J.G. Höroldt, one side with an Oriental seated by a fountain washing her hands, the other with an Oriental holding a contraption with a bird perched on the top, a boy before him, on terraces with flowering shrubs and fences and within shaped quatrefoil gilt cartouches with Böttger-lustre panels, gilt, iron-red and pale-brown foliage scrolls, flanked by insects in flight and branches of indianische Blumen below a gilt Laub-und-Bandelwerk border, the domed cover with two chinoiserie vignettes flanking a gilt knop finial and within a double concentric red circle border, gilt band rims (minute ares of wear, coffee-pot with restored rim chip and slightly ground minute rim chip, cover with restoration to rim)
