the frosted gilt fusee verge movement with turned baluster pillars, blued steel set-up with worm gearing, pierced cock with floral decoration and assymetric foot secured by a single screw, pre-hairspring two-armed steel balance, the silver dial with plain engraved and waxed Roman chapter ring, floral decoration to the centre field and surround, single gilt hand, in gilt brass case, hinged glazed covers to all sides with split bezels, raised floral decoration, the pendant in the form of a flower stem, in (associated) oval leather case with silver pinwork, movement signed

Lot Essay

Zacharie Fonnereau, originally of Geneva, moved to La Rochelle in 1741. Examples of his work are in the British Museum collection. The design of the flowers on the dial and the tangential set-up indicate a date of manufacture of mid 17th Century.
