Château Pichon-Longueville, Baron--Vintage 1982
Pauillac, 2me cru classé. Château-bottled
In original wooden cases
Tasting note: About three years after the vintage I realized I had completely under-estimated this Pauillac. A superb Pichon-Longueville-Baron, as well as one of the vintage's great wines, it boasts a dense purple color with pink/orange hues at the rim. The super-expressive nose offers black currants, cedar, iron, and minerals. Rich, full-bodied, and just as dense and concentrated as Grand-Puy-Lacoste, but more complex, this is a spectacular effort. While the Philadelphia tasting was its finest showing to date, it has consistently rated 90-92 points over the last 7-8 years. It appears to be adding weight and becoming more delineated and complex aromatically. This stunning 1982 is undoubtedly under-priced at auctions. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.
