by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, period of Nicholas I
Circular, the centre painted in sepia with the portrait of Lieutenant-General Nikolai Ivanovich Seliavin, by V. Elatevskii within gilt border, the rim with gilt ciselé Imperial double headed eagles and shako over crossed swords and laurel leaf spray on gilt ground between white bands, the base inscribed in Russian 'Lieutenant-General Nikolai Ivanovich Seliavin.' and signed by the artist, dated '1831', with Imperial double headed eagle, marked under base
9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

It is worth noting that in addition to the cypher of Nicholas I under the base, this plate has another mark, painted in sepia, that depicts an Imperial eagle. This mark does not appear in any of the published reference works on Russian porcelain.
