mark of Assmus Sowke, Hamburg, circa 1655, with the assay master's mark of Johan Jans (1642-1658)
Cylindrical on a domed spreading circular foot, the body repoussé, chased and engraved with later portraits of Tsar Mikhail Feodorovich, Natalia Kirillovna Narishkin and a nobleman, within foliate scroll cartouches, with hinged domed cover set in the centre with a coin with a figure of a horseman on one side and with old-Russian inscription on the reverse, with scroll handle and fluted thumbpiece, marked under base
