the first by the Vishniakov Factory, Moscow, circa 1872
Ovoid, the wooden example depicting St. John in oval silver ground medallion, the reverse with town view, on red ground, apparently unmarked, in original box, stamped 'Vishniakov Factory 1872' with the Imperial warrant, with red ribbon; the papier-maché egg made in two sections, depicting St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on one side and St. Basil's Cathedral on the other each on silver ground within gilt scroll borders, apparently unmarked
