Lot Essay

Sir Cyril Wyche of Hockford, Norfolk (d.1707) married Mary, daughter and heir of George Evelyn of Wooten, elder brother of the diarist John Evelyn. Their son, Jermyn Wych (d.1719) of Hockwold married Mary, only daughter of John Hungerford. Their son, Cyril Wych (d.1780) of Hockwold, was High Sheriff of Norfolk in 1729. It is most likely the present box belonged to him.
