Tasting note: As I indicated last year, as well as in my new book on the Rhone, Janasse's 1995s are brilliant wines. The exceptional 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes offers a saturated plum/purple color, as well as fabulous quantities of fruit. It is extremely rich and full-bodied, with a multi-faceted nose of pepper, spice, black fruits (plums, cherries, and raspberries), and a touch of licorice and cedar. The wine is terrifically endowed, rich, and full-bodied, but not overbearing or excessively alcoholic. It will provide fabulous drinking between 2000-2016.
