A Japanese suzuribako, 18th century
rectangular with indented corners, with slightly domed overhanging lid, the black lacquer ground decorated in gold, silver hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, hirame and nashiji with a rocky outcrop and a later decorated group of mountains in clouds, the interior nashiji and decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e with wysteria and mon, bronze waterdropper and slate suzuri -- 8½in. (21.5cm.) long.
