In the family of the present owner since the nineteenth century, probably bought by Marcus Worsley, Hovingham Hall, Hovingham, Yorkshire.
Exhibited
York, Yorkshire Fine Art Exhibition, 1879 (as 'Pupil of Masaccio', then part of a cassone).

Lot Essay

The panel was part of a cassone that existed at Hovingham Hall from the nineteenth century until it was broken up in 1984.
