Theseus and Ariadne,
a painted fan with chickenskin leaf, the verso of paper, painted with a couple in a landscape, the ivory sticks carved to resemble a bundle of rods when closed, a form known as Pagoda sticks, the upper guardsticks finely carved and pierced with two figures on a balcony and with flowers - 11.5in. (29cm.), French, circa 1755 (leaf worn)
